"Pileated Woodpeckers"
Approx. 34" h. x 22" w.
This commission is in a private residence and installed in an east-facing kitchen window. The pileated woodpecker is a frequent early-morning sight in the neighborhood and was the inspiration for the window. The homeowner provided the design concept artwork and I have interpreted it into stained glass art.
The clear textured glass in the background allows the morning sunlight to diffuse, providing a natural glow around the birds. During the day, it changes to reflect the color of the ambient outside light. The glass in the woodpecker bodies is textured, simulating feathers. By using the naturally occurring patterns in the glass, I have created the illusion of shape and depth in the tree trunk and leaves. Glass was chosen to complement the cabinetry and walls of the newly remodeled kitchen.
