Initial Consultation The initial consultation (which includes a site visit, the presentation of a preliminary design illustration and a good-faith cost estimate) is free for most projects. Please Note: For larger projects requiring more detailed consultations, multiple site visits and/or multiple design concepts, we require a design fee of 5-percent of the anticipated cost of the project (or a minimum of $175) before we can proceed beyond the initial consultation. This fee will be credited toward the final amount due. If you should choose not to proceed with the project, this fee is non-refundable. In any case, Glass by Kathi, LLC retains all rights, privileges and copyrights to any and all designs presented for your approval. These designs may not be reproduced, in whole or in part, nor utilized, in whole or in part, by any other artisan (including yourself) for duplication and/or fabrication. Pricing for Commissions Pricing for commissioned work is based largely upon the complexity of the design chosen, and not merely upon the size of the work. Therefore, a large panel with a very simple, "geometric" design (straight lines, gentle curves, etc.) can cost less per square foot than a smaller panel with a more complex "organic" design (landscape, animal, flowers, etc.) due to the additional time required to cut and prepare smaller pieces of glass for insertion into a design. Other influencing factors which may increase the cost include the choice of a certain color, texture or style of glass, as well as the inclusion of bevels, "jewels" and hand-painted or fused glass. Of course, if you want something special and have a set budget, I will be glad to work with you to design something within that scope. There are many alternative ways to get a unique heirloom for a surprisingly low cost.
The base price of most geometric designs falls within a range of $130 to $250 per square foot. The above prices are only estimates. Each window is unique. Only after final designs are approved and glass has been chosen, can a firm quotation be presented for your acceptance. A non-refundable "cutting deposit" of 50% of the total price quoted will be required before fabrication can begin. This fee will be credited toward the final amount due. The remaining balance is due at completion/delivery of your project. Please see commissions for more detailed information regarding the entire design and commissioning process. Pricing for Repairs and Restorations Because repairs can be a daunting and unpredictable task, all repairs and restorations are done at the risk of the client and are billed on a time plus materials basis. The hourly rate for most repairs and restorations is $60 per hour. Rates for extremely difficult or large repairs cannot be quoted until after the initial assessment. A minimum charge of 2 hours will be billed on all work that is accepted for repair....no exceptions. Please remember that the prices quoted above are estimates only. All work must be assessed at my studio (or in the case of installed pieces) at the site. The possibility exists that I may not accept the work, however, a travel time charge may still apply. A deposit of 50% of the estimated price of the work will be due when items are dropped off to me. The remainder is due when you pick up the work.
